Curriculum Overview

Summer Reading List:  Middle School / High School

Foreign Language:  Spanish

All students at Carlisle Christian Academy have the opportunity to enrich their educational experiences by taking courses in Spanish I - IV.  High School students participate in rigorous lessons that heavily emphasize grammar structures and expand the students’ vocabulary. Bible memory verses are incorporated into the study, and more detailed reports and oral presentations are expected.  Many different verb tenses are mastered, and students become acquainted with everyday life in the countries that utilize the language they are studying.

When scheduled, the entire school participates in a World Cultures Festival, which recognizes and celebrates various languages spoken throughout our world. Students enjoy learning about unique and interesting cultures from lands both near and far.

BJ LINC

The BJ LINC program is a teaching medium used by Carlisle Christian Academy for certain High School Math, and Science classes. It is made available to our students via new satellite technology used here at the Academy. BJ stands for Bob Jones, which is the Christian university that provides this service to Christian High Schools across the continent. LINC stands for Live Interactive Network Classroom.

That’s right, LINC classes are Live, they are Interactive, they are networked with Christian schools across North America, and they provide a truly unique Classroom setting.

BJ LINC classes are specifically designed to deliver teaching for understanding. What does that mean? Several alternatives to LINC lend themselves to teaching at a distance: audio tapes, videotapes, and live satellite-delivered TV instruction. None of these teaching methods, however, provide teaching for understanding. You see, teaching for understanding requires both live and interactive instruction. This is what LINC uniquely delivers.

LINC’s commitment to teaching for understanding is also why LINC classes can be effective for any student, any grade level, any G.P.A. This is accomplished via three different levels of interactivity. These three levels of interactivity (verbal, signal, and pop question) are transmitted from the student to the teacher via the student’s Interactive Response Unit (IRU). On the verbal level, through the IRU, the student can ask questions directly of the teacher, with every BJ LINC student across the continent able to hear the question and the response. The second level of interactivity is a more anonymous way of letting the teacher know that the student does not understand the concept currently being taught. With a simple push of a button, the teacher is “signaled” that the student does not understand. When enough students indicate a lack of understanding, the teacher may repeat or review his teaching or ask for verbal clarification from the students. Thirdly, the remaining level of interactivity is the pop question. BJ LINC teachers create application questions that are given throughout the teaching session and are answered by the students via their IRU’s. Instantly, the teacher sees the results and is able to get a firm grasp on how well his students understand what is being taught.

Community Service / Ministry Opportunities

Community Service is an opportunity for students to take the lessons they learn in Bible class and in chapel and put them to everyday use. In Matthew 25:31-46 Jesus talks about how we should treat others. In verse 40 He says, “I tell you the truth, whatever you have did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” This passage shows us that serving others is an essential element to serving Jesus.

Each year the Middle/High school students of CCA will be required to complete ministry / community service hours. The amount of time required will vary among levels with MS students performing service work at CCA and HS students serving both at the school and in their community.
